What is Calcough Children’s Soothing Syrup Blackcurrant?
Calcough Children’s Soothing Syrup is a treatment that is designed to treat a child’s cough. It does this thanks to the two active ingredients contained in the syrup:
- Glycerin
- Liquid Sugar
Glycerin works as a lubricant to soothe a sore throat and reduce the effects of a cough. Liquid sugar works in the same way, helping to reduce a dry, tickly cough. This syrup has a blackcurrant flavour and is non-drowsy.
What causes a dry, tickly cough?
A dry tickly cough is caused by an infection, such as a cold or the flu. This infection will irritate the throat and chest and cause a cough. A cough is often just one of several symptoms that are caused when contracting a cold or the flu.
Who can this cough syrup be used by?
This cough syrup is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 1 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the syrup should not use it. If medication is used for another condition, then it is recommended that a doctor or pharmacist is consulted before using.
Can adults use this Calcough syrup?
There is nothing to say that an adult cannot use this medicine if they are suffering from a dry, tickly cough. Though it might be better if medical advice is asked for before using.
How should Calcough Children’s Soothing Syrup Blackcurrant be used?
For children between 1-5, give them one 5ml spoonful 3-4 times a day. For anyone over the age of 5, increase this to two 5ml spoonfuls per dose. Use the included spoon for measuring doses. If symptoms continue after using, speak to a doctor or pharmacist.
Are there any side effects?
There is unlikely to be any side effects unless it is an allergic reaction. In that case, if you notice a side effect then stop using the medicine and go to a doctor. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
