What is Beconase nasal spray?

Beconase nasal spray is a treatment for hay fever symptoms, like sneezing, itching, and a blocked or runny nose. If you’re an adult suffering with hay fever and you need a quick and reliable way to ease your symptoms, this could be the perfect solution for you. Beconase spray takes just a few sprays a day to treat and prevent your symptoms, perfect for when the symptoms in your nose are flaring up during the spring and summer months.

Why do I get hay fever symptoms?

Hay fever symptoms happen when you’re allergic to a substance called pollen, which is created by plants and flowers. If you have hay fever, pollen can cause an allergic reaction in your body, making your body create a natural substance called histamine that triggers your hay fever symptoms. These symptoms are designed to help your body to remove the pollen, and some of the most common symptoms include:

  • Sneezing
  • Blocked nose
  • Runny nose
  • Itchy nose, eyes, ears, or throat
  • Rashes
  • Red, watery eyes

How will the beclometasone in Beconase nasal spray relieve my hay fever symptoms?

The active ingredient in Beconase nasal spray is beclometasone dipropionate, which is a type of medication called a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids, or steroids, work by reducing inflammation, so this product will reduce the inflammation in your nose and ease the irritation that causes sneezing and itching. It also helps to reduce swelling that causes a blocked or runny nose, helping you to breathe more easily.

Can I take this product if I’m taking other medication?

If you’re taking any other medication, including those you obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Beconase nasal spray. This especially applies if you are already taking:

  • Other corticosteroids, including eczema creams, asthma inhalers, tablets, injections, nasal sprays, or eye and nose drops
  • Medications for HIV, including ritonavir and cobicistat

Can I use Beconase if I’m taking other hay fever medications?

If you’re taking other hay fever medications, like antihistamine tablets or hay fever eye drops, you may be able to take Beconase nasal spray at the same time. However, you should only do this if you’re told to by your doctor or pharmacist, as the combination of some medications may not be safe for you.

Can I use this nasal spray if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Beconase or any other medication. Some treatments may not be right for you or your baby at this time, but a medical professional can help you to choose a product that’s safe for both of you.
