What is Phenergan Night Time?

Phenergan Night Time tablets are a treatment for sleepless nights and insomnia, using an ingredient called promethazine to help you get to sleep. It makes you feel drowsy or tired, making it easier for you to drift off for your much needed 8 hours of sleep. Phenergan Night can be used by adults and children over 16, and it’s an ideal solution to sleepless nights caused by exam stress, work worries, or jet lag after your holiday.

Why can’t I fall asleep?

Short-term insomnia, which simply means that you can’t fall asleep, is completely normal, and you’ll usually experience it at least once in your life. It can happen for lots of different reasons, will often clear up by itself, and usually isn’t anything to worry about, even if it is annoying!

Some of the most common reasons why you may be lying awake counting sheep include:

  • Stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Jet lag
  • Shift work
  • A noisy environment
  • An uncomfortable bed
  • Being too hot or too cold
  • Drinking alcohol or caffeine
  • Smoking
  • Taking recreational drugs
  • Some medications or medical conditions

How will the promethazine in Phenergan Night Time treat my insomnia?

Phenergan Night Time tablets contain 25mg of promethazine, which is a type of medication called a phenothiazine. It works by blocking a substance called histamine in your body, which is created when you have an allergic reaction and can have a stimulant effect. This helps you to feel drowsy and makes it easier for you to drop off to sleep.

Can I take these sleeping tablets during my pregnancy?

If you’re pregnant you should speak to your doctor before taking Phenergan Night Time. You will usually be advised to avoid any unnecessary medications during your pregnancy so you should only take this product if your doctor has told you that the benefits would outweigh the potential effects on your child. You should not take this medicine within 2 weeks before you’re due to give birth or when you’re breastfeeding. The promethazine in these tablets can pass into your breast milk in small amounts, which could be harmful to your baby.

Will this treatment work with my regular medication?

If you’re taking any other medication, including herbal remedies or medicines you obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Phenergan Night tablets. This especially applies if you are already taking:

  • Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), which are used for depression. You should not take Phenergan if you’ve taken MAOIs within the last 2 weeks
  • Anticholinergic medicines, which are used for IBS, asthma, or a weak bladder
  • Depression medications, e.g. amitriptyline
  • Medicines to help you fall asleep or feel relaxed, e.g. diazepam, zolpidem
  • Medicines for arthritis or joint pain, e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, and other NSAIDs

Can I drive when I’ve taken these tablets?

Phenergan Night tablets make you feel drowsy or tired so they can help you to fall asleep. For this reason, you shouldn’t attempt to drive or use tools or machinery after taking these tablets. You should wait until any drowsiness or other symptoms that would reduce your attention or concentration have completely passed before you attempt to drive again.

Can I drink alcohol if I’m taking these tablets?

You shouldn’t drink alcohol while you’re taking Phenergan Night, as it can affect the way your medication works. For example, it can increase the drowsiness you experience after taking this medication and can also make other side effects more likely.

What’s the usual dose of Phenergan Night?
