Levocetirizine is a treatment for hay fever and allergy symptoms, belonging to a group of medicines called antihistamines. This medication can be used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis caused by pollen, house dust mites, mould or animals. Levocetirizine can also be used to treat nettle rash (urticaria), also known as hives.

How does levocetirizine relieve allergy symptoms?

Levocetirizine dihydrochloride is a type of medicine called an antihistamine. Levocetirizine, and other antihistamines, work by blocking the release of histamine, a chemical that is released during an allergic reaction. Blocking this chemical helps to relieve symptoms such as a runny nose, itchy eyes and sneezing.

Directions

The recommended dosage for levocetirizine for adults and children over the age of 6 years old is one 5mg tablet per day. The dose for children over 6 may be lower depending on their body weight.
