What is Clarinaze?

Clarinaze is a nasal spray from the manufacturers of the popular hay fever treatment, Clarityn. Clarinaze helps to ease symptoms of hay fever and is perfect for those who suffer from sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, or itching when the pollen count is high.

How to use Clarinaze nasal spray

Shake the bottle well before use and remove the dust cap. Blow your nose gently before each treatment. Use your finger to close one of your nostrils and insert the nozzle of the spray into your other nostril. Tilt your head forward slightly and gently begin to breathe in through your nose. As you breathe in, press down on the nozzle to squirt a spray into your nostril. Breathe out through your mouth and then breathe in through your nose and squirt one more spray. Remove the nozzle from your nostril and repeat the process in your other nostril. Use no more than 4 sprays in any 24-hour period, 2 sprays in each nostril. After using this product, wipe the nozzle with a clean handkerchief or tissue. Do not use it for more than 3 months without consulting your doctor.

How does mometasone treat hay fever?

Clarinaze contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate, which was only available as a prescription medication (which you may know as Nasonex) until recently. Mometasone is a corticosteroid medication, which are sometimes known as steroids, and works by reducing inflammation on the inside of your nose. This helps to ease sneezing, itching, and a blocked or runny nose, which can all occur if you suffer from hay fever.

What happens when you have hay fever?

When you have hay fever, your body reacts when it comes into contact with pollen and produces a substance called histamine. Histamine then sends signals to different areas of your body, such as your nose and eyes, to tell them to clear the pollen from your system. This causes hay fever symptoms, such as a runny nose, itching, sneezing, coughing, and more.

Is Clarinaze the same as Nasonex?

Nasonex is a nasal spray that’s used to ease symptoms of allergy and hay fever and is only available on prescription. Nasonex uses the same amount of the same active ingredient as Clarinaze, containing 50 micrograms of mometasone furoate in every spray. Until recently, you could only get Nasonex from your doctor, but after a review of the active ingredient, mometasone furoate has been made available as an over the counter medication in Clarinaze, that you can pick up from your pharmacy without needing a prescription. So yes, Nasonex and Clarinaze use the same amount of the same ingredient, the only difference is whether you get your medicine from your pharmacy or prescribed by your doctor.

Can Clarinaze be used with other hay fever remedies?

Many other hay fever remedies, such as Clarityn tablets, can be used at the same time as your Clarinaze nasal spray. However, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you are taking other hay fever remedies, including herbal remedies and those you obtained without a prescription, to be sure that they are safe to use together.
