What is Eurax Cream and when is it used?

Eurax cream is used to relieve itching and skin irritation associated with a number of different symptoms such as:

  • Insect bites or stings
  • Nettle rash
  • Heat rash
  • Sunburn
  • Eczema or dermatitis
  • Chicken pox and scabies

How will it treat my symptoms?

The active substance is used to relieve itching (pruritis). It is not fully understood how it works, but each application should provide relief from itching for 6 to 10 hours. It’s particularly useful for relieving itching that can persist after scabies has been treated with an antiparasitic medicine.

What causes itchy skin (pruritis)?

There are a number of possible causes of itchy skin, including:

  • Dry skin – Usually results from older age or environmental factors such as long-term use of air conditioning or central heating, and washing or bathing too much.
  • Skin conditions and rashes – The itching usually affects specific areas and is accompanied by other signs, such as red, irritated skin or bumps and blisters
  • Internal diseases – Skin may look otherwise normal except for the repeatedly scratched areas
  • Irritation and allergic reactions – wool, chemicals, soaps and other substances can irritate the skin and cause itching.
