What are Nurofen Caplets?

Nurofen 200mg Caplets provides rapid relief from a variety of everyday aches and pains, as well as reducing inflammation and swelling.

What kinds of aches and pains can Nurofen 200mg help with?

Nurofen can ease lots of different types of pain including:

  • Headaches and migraine pain.
  • Dental pain and neuralgia.
  • Period.
  • Rheumatic, muscular and back pain.
  • Feverishness and symptoms of cold and flu.

How can Nurofen help to ease pain?

Each Nurofen caplet contains 200mg of ibuprofen which belongs to a group of medicines known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS). NSAIDs relieve pain by changing the body’s response to pain, swelling and high temperature.

Taking this product with other medication.

To reduce the risk of side effects, do not take this product with other NSAIDs (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen). If you are on low-dose aspirin (up to 75mg daily) speak to your doctor BEFORE taking this medicine. Avoid taking this medicine with:

  • Corticosteroid tablets.
  • Quinolone antibiotics.
  • Anti-coagulants.
  • Medicines that stimulate the heart.
  • Medicines that reduce high blood pressure.
  • Diuretics.
  • Medicines for the temporary suppression of your immune system.
  • Medicines for mania or depression.
  • Medicines for pregnancy termination.
  • HIV treatment.

Always check the label before taking any medication to ensure it is suitable for you. If you are unsure, seek medical advice from your GP or a  pharmacist.

How to take Nurofen.

This medicine is for short-term use only. You should take the lowest dose for the shortest time necessary to relieve your symptoms.

Adults, the elderly, children and adolescents between 12 and 18 years: Take 1 or 2 tablets with water, up to three times a day as required. Leave at least 4 hours between doses. Do NOT take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours.

In children and adolescents between 12 and 18 years: If this medicine is required for more than 3 days or if symptoms worsen, consult your doctor.

Do NOT take for longer for than 10 days unless advised by a doctor. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor or a  pharmacist.

Side effects.

Like all medicines, Nurofen can cause side effects, although not all everybody will experience them. Side effects may be minimised by taking the lowest dose for the shortest time necessary.

Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop:

Signs of intestinal bleeding:

  • Bright red faeces.
  • Black tarry stools.
  • Vomiting blood or dark particles that look like coffee grounds.

Signs of a serious allergic reaction:

  • Difficulties in breathing or unexplained wheezing.
  • Dizziness or faster heartbeat.
  • Severe forms of skin reactions such as itchiness, skin rash.
  • Swelling of your face, tongue or throat.

Signs of kidney problems:

  • Passing less or more urine.
  • Cloudy urine or blood in the urine.
  • Pain in the back and/or swelling (particularly in the legs).

Signs of aseptic meningitis:

  • Neck stiffness.
  • Headache.
  • Feeling sick.
  • Being sick.
  • Fever.

A severe skin reaction (DRESS syndrome)

  • Skin rash.
  • Fever.
  • Swelling of lymph nodes.
  • Increase of eosinophils.

When should this product not be used?

Do NOT take this product if you:

  • Are allergic to ibuprofen or any of the other ingredients or aspirin or other painkillers.
  • Have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding.
  • Have had a worsening of asthma, skin rash, itchy runny nose or facial swelling when previously taking ibuprofen, aspirin or similar medicines.
  • Have had gastrointestinal bleeding perforation when previously taking NSAIDs.
  • Are taking other NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs).
  • Are taking more than 75mg of aspirin a day.
  • Have severe liver or kidney problems.
  • Have heart problems, high blood pressure or blood coagulation disorder.
  • Have breathing difficulties.
  • Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy.
  • Are under 12 years old.

Check with your pharmacist or your doctor before taking this product if you:

  • Have or have had asthma.
  • Have kidney, heart, liver or bowel problems.
  • Have high cholesterol or previously have had a heart attack or stroke.
  • Have a history of gastrointestinal disease (such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease).
  • Have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
  • Are a smoker.
  • Are in the first 6 months of pregnancy.

Storage.

Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the carton. Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original pack.
