What are Nurofen Day and Night tablets?
Nurofen Day and Night tablets are a remedy for cold and flu that can be used at any time. They help to relieve cold and flu symptoms, including headaches, sore throat, nasal congestion, aches and pains, and fevers. If you’re struggling with a nasty cold or flu, Nurofen could help to ease your symptoms, providing effective relief.
What is the difference between colds and flu?
Colds and flu are so similar that some people struggle to know the difference between the two. The main difference between a cold and the flu is the severity of the symptoms, flu symptoms are much more severe than that of a cold. One way to tell the difference between a cold and flu is the severity of a fever. If you have a cold, you may see your temperature rise a little, but those with the flu will usually develop a higher fever that can last for 3 – 4 days before breaking. The main symptoms of cold and flu include:
Symptoms of cold
- A blocked or runny nose.
- A sore throat.
- Headaches.
- Coughs.
- Sneezing.
- A raised temperature.
- Pressure in your ears and face.
- Loss of taste and smell.
Symptoms of the flu
Symptoms of the cold plus:
- A sudden fever- a temperature of 38°C or above.
- An aching body.
- Feeling tired or exhausted.
- Difficulty sleeping.
- Loss of appetite.
- Diarrhoea or tummy pain.
- Feeling sick and being sick.
How does this product treat colds and flu?
Nurofen Cold and Flu contains two active ingredients which are effective in relieving cold and flu symptoms. The first of these ingredients is ibuprofen, an anti-inflammatory which works to relieve pains, headaches, swelling, and can help to reduce a fever. The second active ingredient is phenylephrine hydrochloride which works as a nasal decongestant, reducing swelling in the passages of your nose and relieving congestion.
How to use Nurofen to treat Cold and Flu.
These tablets must be taken with water and swallowed whole.
It is important to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day when suffering from colds and flu.
This product is only suitable for adults, the elderly and children over 12 years and is intended for short-term use only. Take the lowest dose for the shortest time necessary.
Take 2 tablets up to 3 times a day. Leave at least 4 hours between doses and do not take more than 6 tablets in any 24 hour period
Warnings
- Do NOT take Nurofen Day and Night for longer than 10 days
- If symptoms persist or worsen seek medical advice
- Do NOT give to children under 12 years
Overdose/Accidental Ingest
If you have taken more Nurofen Day & Night tablets than you should or if children have taken his medicine by accident always contact a doctor or nearest hospital to get an opinion of the risk and advice on action to be taken. Symptoms can include:
- Nausea
- Stomach pain
- Vomiting (may be blood-streaked)
- Headache
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- Confusion
- Shaky eye movement
- Drowsiness
- Chest pain
- Palpitations
- Loss of consciousness
- Convulsions
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Blood in urine
- Cold body feeling
- Breathing problems
When should Nurofen Day and Night not be taken?
Nurofen Day and Night is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Do not use this product if you are allergic to ibuprofen, phenylephrine hydrochloride, or any of the other listed ingredients. Speak to your doctor before taking this product Do not take Nurofen Cold and Flu if you:
- Have ever had a stomach ulcer, perforation, or bleeding
- Are taking any other NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) painkillers.
- Have ever had gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation while taking NSAIDs.
- Are taking more than 75mg of aspirin a day.
- Have severe liver or kidney problems.
- Have heart problems, high blood pressure, or blood coagulation disorder.
- Have breathing difficulties.
- Have an overactive thyroid.
- Are taking depression medication called Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOIs).
- Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy.
Does this product have any side effects?
Like all medicines, Nurofen Cold and Flu can have side effects, although not everyone will get them. These side effects include:
- Signs of intestinal bleeding.
- Signs of a serious allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of face, tongue, or throat, etc.).
- Signs of kidney problems.
- Signs of aseptic meningitis.
- Signs of liver problems.
- Indigestion, heartburn, or feeling sick.
- Pains in your stomach or other stomach problems.
If you experience these or any other side effects while using Nurofen Day and Night, stop using this product and speak to your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
