What is Robitussin Chesty Cough Medicine?

It contains an active ingredient that works by causing the cough to become less frequent and more productive to prevent persistant, unpleasant cough symptoms. The syrup is easy to administer and is suitable for adultes, the elderly and children over the age of 12. If you’re looking for an effective cough treatment, try Robitussin Chesty Cough Medicine.

What causes a chesty cough?

A cough is our body’s reflex action to clear the airways of mucus and irritants such as dust or smoke. Coughs usually short-term and are rarely a sign of something serious. A chesty cough involves phlegm that has been produced to clear out the airways. There are many causes of short-term chesty coughs including:

  • An upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) which affects the throat, windpipe or sinuses, such as a cold or the flu
  • An allergy
  • A flare-up of a long-term condition, such as asthma

There is usually no need to seek advice from your GP if you have a cough, however if you experience any of the following symptoms, you should seek medical advice:

  • You’ve had a cough for more than 3 weeks
  • The cough is severe
  • You cough up blood or experience shortness of breath, breathing difficulties or chest pain
  • You have other symptoms such as unexplained weightloss, a persistent change in your voice or lumps/swellings in the neck.

How can Robitussin Chesty Cough soothe unpleasant cough symptoms?

Robtussin Chesty Cough Medicine contains the active ingredient guaifenesin which belongs to a group of medicines known as cough expectorants. This ingredient works by changing the cough into a cough that is more productive and less frequent, to help reduce discomfort. The syrup format is easy to administer and can be taken up to 4 times a day to provide relief and improve symptoms of your cough.
