What is Ultra Chloraseptic Honey & Lemon Flavour Throat Spray?
This is a throat spray that works to reduce the pain of a sore throat. The active ingredient contained in the spray is benzocaine. Benzocaine is a local anaesthetic that numbs the pain associated with a sore throat.
What causes a sore throat?
A sore throat is caused by a number of different conditions. A sore throat is a symptom of infections such as a cold or the flu, tonsillitis, laryngitis, and glandular fever. A sore throat can also be caused by an allergy as well as smoking. A sore throat is characterised by pain when swallowing, a mild cough, and a dry scratchy throat.
Who is this Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray suitable for?
This throat spray is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over. Anyone who is allergic to benzocaine or any other ingredient in the throat spray. This spray should also not be used if any of the following applies:
- You have difficulty breathing
- You have a rare blood condition known as methaemoglobinaemia
If you are using medication for any other condition, speak to a doctor or Pharmacist before using this throat spray.
Can this throat spray be used by someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding?
Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this throat spray.
How should Ultra Chloraseptic Honey & Lemon Flavour Throat Spray be used?
Remove the cap and rotate the head 180 degrees. The first time you use, spray three times away from your face to activate. The recommended dosage for this spray is:
- Children aged 6-12: Hold breath and spray once into the back of the throat. Repeat every 2-3 hours up to 8 times a day.
- Children 12 and over and adults: Spray 2-3 times into the back of the throat every 2-3 hours up to 8 times a day.
Do not use for more than 3 days. If symptoms still persist after using, speak to a doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Are there any side effects?
When using the spray, you may experience numbness in the throat. This is a sign that the spray is working. There is a chance of other side effects, which include swelling in the face. If you notice a side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
