What are Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops?

Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops are a quick remedy for hay fever symptoms that affect your eyes. It helps to soothe itchy, irritated eyes and reduces redness and swelling, working quickly to tackle the cause of your symptoms. If you’re looking for a way to manage your hay fever symptoms throughout the day, Opticrom eye drops can be applied throughout the day to help keep your eyes soothed and comfortable.

Why do I get itchy eyes when I have hay fever?

When you have hay fever your body reacts when you come into contact with pollen, which comes from plants. Your body wants to remove the pollen, so it products a substance called histamine to try and get the allergen out. Histamine is released into different parts of your body, where it will cause symptoms designed to try and remove irritants, with some of the most common hay fever symptoms including:

  • Itchy eyes, ears, nose, and throat
  • Runny or blocked nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • Sneezing
  • Coughing

How will Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops soothe my itchy, watery eyes?

Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops contain an active ingredient called sodium cromoglicate, which is an anti-allergy medication. It works by preventing histamine from being released into your eyes, so it can’t cause your hay fever symptoms. This tackles the cause of your symptoms head-on, preventing irritation, itching, redness, and watery eyes all at once.

Can I use these eye drops if I’m wearing contact lenses?

Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops should not be used with soft contact lenses. The drops contain an ingredient called benzalkonium chloride, which discolours soft contact lenses when it comes into contact with them. If you use any other type of contact lens, you can use this product to ease hay fever symptoms. Remove your contacts before applying the drops and then wait for at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.

Can I drive after using these eye drops?

Your vision may become blurry for a short while after using Optictom eye drops. If this happens to you, or if you experience any other symptoms which affect your vision or your concentration, you should not attempt to drive or use any tools or machinery until the symptoms have passed and you’re sure you’re safe to do so.

Can I use these eye drops if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops. Medical professionals will often recommend using eye drops and nasal sprays to ease hay fever symptoms during pregnancy, as they can be more suitable for you than antihistamine tablets. However, this will entirely depend on your own condition, so make sure to speak to your doctor or pharmacist before you take any medication during these times.

How to use Opticrom eye drops

Before using these eye drops you should wash your hands and remove the cap from the bottle. Tip your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid, creating a gap between your eyelid and your eyeball. Use your other hand to gently squeeze the bottle of drops to deposit 1 – 2 drops into the gap beneath your eyelid. Close your eye to disperse the drops evenly across its surface and wipe away any excess drops from around your eye with a tissue. Apply 1 – 2 drops into each eye four times a day.

When should this product not be used?

Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops are not suitable for use in children under the age of 6. Do not use this product if you are allergic to sodium cromoglicate or any of the other listed ingredients. If you think that your symptoms are caused by anything other than hay fever you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product. This includes allergies such as pet fur or dust mites.

Do Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drops have any side effects?
