Why do I get itchy, watery eyes when I have hay fever?

When you have hay fever your body reacts to a natural substance called pollen, which is released from plants, especially over spring and summer. When you come into contact with pollen your body will try and get rid of it by releasing a substance called histamine. Histamine is released into different parts of your body where it will trigger allergy symptoms, such as itchy, watery, or red eyes.

How will Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops relieve my hay fever symptoms?

Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops contain an active ingredient called sodium cromoglicate, which helps to ease allergy symptoms in your eyes. It works by preventing the release of histamine into your eyes, which keeps it from causing itching, watering, and redness. This tackles your symptoms at their cause, helping to keep your eyes feeling comfortable.

Can I use these eye drops during my pregnancy?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops. They may recommend using this product, as eye drops are typically a better option of allergy relief for pregnant women than antihistamine tablets or syrups. However, you should only use this or any other medication if your doctor or pharmacist has told you it’s safe to do so.

Can I use these eye drops if I wear contact lenses?

You can use Opticrom Eye Drops if you wear contact lenses, but you will have to remove them before each use. Once you’ve applied the drops you should wait for 15 minutes before putting your contacts back in. If you’re ever unsure whether your contact lenses will be affected by your eye medication you should speak to your doctor or optometrist for more information.

Can I drive after using this product?

You might experience blurred vision immediately after using these eye drops. This is normal and will usually clear up quite quickly. If this happens to you, do not attempt to drive or use any tools or machinery until your vision has cleared and you’re sure you are safe to do so.

How to use Opticrom Single Use Eye Drops

Before using this product, wash and dry your hands. Break off one vial of Opticrom eye drops from the strip and open it by twisting or bending the tab. Tilt your head back and use your other hand to gently pull down your lower eyelid, forming a pocket. Squeeze the vial of drops to deposit 1 – 2 drops into the inside of the eyelid. Close your eye to spread the drops evenly over its surface, then wipe away any excess drops from around the eye with a tissue. Use 1 – 2 drops in each eye 4 times a day for best results.

When should this product not be used?

Do not use Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops if you are allergic to sodium cromoglicate or any of the other listed ingredients. For use in the eye only. If you accidentally use more drops than you should, speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Do Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops have any side effects?

Like all medications, Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These side effects include:

• Symptoms of allergic reaction to the drops, e.g. itching, redness, or swelling of the eyes getting worse
• Mild eye irritation
• Stinging or burning of the eyes or blurred eyesight, this will usually pass a short time after using the eye drops

How to store this product

Store in a cool, dry place which is below 25 degrees C. Keep the single-dose vials in the original packaging to protect from sunlight. Do not use this product if the expiry date printed on the original packaging has passed. Once opened, use each single-dose vial immediately. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
