What is Otrivine Allergy Relief nasal spray?

Otrivine Allergy Relief nasal spray is a daily treatment for allergy symptoms that affect your nose. If you’re looking for a simple treatment for symptoms like sneezing, or a blocked or runny nose during allergy season, this nasal spray can help to clear your airways so you’ll feel more comfortable. Otrivine Allergy Relief is perfect for hay fever season, but can also be used to reduce congestion caused by other allergies (such as pet fur or dust allergies), colds, and sinusitis.

Why does my nose get blocked when I have an allergic reaction?

When you have an allergic reaction to something like pollen, pet fur, or dust, your body releases a natural substance called histamine to counteract the allergen. Histamine in released into different areas of your body, where it gets to work causing allergy symptoms which are designed to remove the allergen from your system. When histamine is released into your nose it can cause swelling in the membranes that line the inside of your nostrils, causing a blocked nose. This swelling leaves less room for mucus in your nose, making your nose run, even when it feels blocked.

How will the 0.1% Xylometasone in Otrivine ease my allergy symptoms?

The active ingredient in Otrivine Allergy Relief is 0.1% xylometasone, which is a decongestant. It works by relieving swelling in your nasal passages, which gives you more room to breathe and clears your blockage. This prevents a runny nose and reduces the irritation that causes sneezing and itching, helping you to feel more comfortable when your allergies kick in.

Can I drive after using this hay fever nasal spray?

You will usually be totally fine to drive after using Otrivine Allergy Relief nasal spray, as it’s a non-drowsy medication. However, temporary visual disturbances, like blurred vision, are an occasional side effect of this medication, so you will need to make sure your vision isn’t affected before you attempt to drive or use any tools or machinery.

Can I use this allergy relief during pregnancy?

If you’re rpegnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Otrivine Allergy Relief or any other medication. Although doctors will often recommend nasal sprays for allergy relief during pregnancy, rather than antihistamine tablets, you should only take them if a medical professional has recommended it for you.

Can I use this nasal spray with my normal medication or antihistamines?

If you’re taking any other medication, including other hay fever medications, herbal remedies, or medicines you obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Otrivine Allergy Relief Nasal Spray. This especially applies if you have taken MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) or other antidepressants within the past 2 weeks.
