What is Benylin Infant’s Cough Syrup?
Benylin Infant’s Cough Syrup is a treatment that helps to relieve the effects of a cough. The active ingredient of this syrup is glycerol. Glycerol is a lubricant that soothes the mouth and throat and reduces the effects of a dry, tickly cough.
What causes a dry, tickly cough?
A dry, tickly cough can be caused by an infection, such as a cold or the flu. This is because irritation in the mouth and throat can occur. A dry, tickly cough is different from a mucus cough as a mucus cough causes phlegm or mucus to be brought up. A dry cough can also be caused by an allergy, smoke, or by heartburn.
Who is this Benylin medicine suitable for?
This Benylin medicine is suitable to be used by children aged from 3months to 5 years. Anyone older should get advice from a doctor or pharmacist on what medicine to use. This medicine should not be used by any child who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the medicine. If a child has an intolerance to some sugars or is using any other medication, then seek medical advice before using.
How should Benylin Infant’s Cough Syrup be used?
For children aged 3 months to 1 year, use 5ml between 3-4 times a day. For children between 1-5 years, double the dosage the 10ml. If symptoms of a cough persist after 3 days of use, speak to a Pharmacist or a doctor.
Are there any side effects?
With normal use, there should not be side effects, except for a small chance of diarrhoea occurring. If you do notice any side effects, then stop using and consult a doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
